Loved.

“I had fallen in love with Jesus just to find out he was already in love with me.”

I heard this on the radio last week and it made me sit back and say, “wow.” It was a statement that I already knew was true, but was something I never really thought of. Jesus didn’t have to fall in love with me because he already was.

That statement is still so crazy to me. When I think of people falling in love I think of them spending time together to get to know each other better. While doing this they make sure to put their best foot forward. They do whatever it takes to make sure their best qualities and traits are exemplified and in time they slowly ease their way into telling/showing the things in their lives that they prefer to stay hidden. Why do we do that? Because most of the time we don’t want to put our business out there. We don’t want people to see our mistakes, our past, or our “junk” at first because we don’t want to be judged by it or scare them away. We want to be truly and genuinely loved and most people feel that it’s impossible because of the things we may have done.

However, here is a man named Jesus who knew you before you were even born. He knew of all the things you were going to do in your life, both the good and the bad. He knew of the accomplishments you would achieve and the struggles you would face and he also knew that there would be a possibility that you would never come to know him. But guess what? He loves you still.

Yes, you read that correctly. Jesus still loves you.

He loves you despite your flaws.
He loves you despite your mistakes.
He loves you despite your shortcomings.
He loves you despite your sin.
He loves you even if you strayed away.
He loves you even if you don’t love him.
Jesus loves you.

How do I know? Because Jesus still died on the cross for you and I. He didn’t pick and choose who he carried the cross for. He did for everyone.

See, although I try to hide my mess from Jesus, the truth of the matter is that he already knows. He knows it all, but yet he still loves me. I didn’t need to do my hair, wear my best outfit, or talk about my best qualities to impress him. He loves me because I am his. What an amazing love.

This is just one of the many reasons why I love Jesus. It’s because he first loved me. He loved me when I thought I was worthless. He loved me in my darkest times and he loved me when I didn’t want anything to do with him. Despite all of that, he continues to love me because his love is not contingent on anything that I do. His love is unconditional and it extends to you as well.

Our hope is that as you grow in your knowledge of God and in your identity, that your love for Him continues to grow as well. Know that no matter what your past may look like, you are greatly love and there’s nothing or no one in this world that could ever separate you from that love.

“Yes, I am sure that nothing can separate us from God’s love—not death, life, angels, or ruling spirits. I am sure that nothing now, nothing in the future, no powers, nothing above us or nothing below us—nothing in the whole created world—will ever be able to separate us from the love God has shown us in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39 (ERV)
