We are officially two weeks into 2019 and usually around this point of the new year people tend to throw out their resolutions and revert back to their old habits. The question is why. When making a change or starting something new why do people tend to give up after a certain amount of time? It’s simple. They don’t see any results.
Have you ever been there? Can you relate? I know I can. I know what it feels like to eat well, abstain from junk food, and exercise daily only to jump on the scale and see the same number I saw before. It’s discouraging, and that’s what really gets to us. Discouragement.
So many people will put in a lot of effort in making changes in the beginning of the year and as time progresses their efforts diminish because they don’t see any results. I have something to tell you though…
Don’t forget the yet.
The word yet simply means up to now: so far or at a future time. Can you imagine how much your perspective would change if you just added this simple three letter word to end of a sentence?
I haven’t lost the weight yet.
I didn’t get promoted yet.
I don’t own my own home yet.
I’m not debt free yet.
By adding yet, you’re stating that it hasn’t come to pass but it will! You’re declaring that you are still in expectation. The thing you need to remember is to keep putting in the work and effort needed to allow the results to come.
During the sermon this Sunday my pastor said this:
Expectation + preparation + effort = results. No expectations + no preparations + no effort = nothing
It’s as simple as that. Lastly, I leave you with this.
“I remain confident of this:
I will see the goodness of the Lord
in the land of the living.
Wait for the Lord;
be strong and take heart
and wait for the Lord.”
-Psalms 27:13-14 NIV
Stay in expectation, keep moving forward and remain confident. I’m rootin’ for you, Beloved!
